Lucia by the sea

A novel by Elizabeth Strout

As a panicked world locks in, Lucy Barton is torn from her life in Manhattan and taken to a small town in Maine by her ex-husband and recurring friend, William. For the next few months, it’s just Lucy, William, and their complex past reunited in a small house nestled against the moody, swirling sea.

Fairy tale

A novel by Stephen King

Charlie Reade looks like an ordinary high schooler, great at baseball and football, a decent student. But he carries a heavy load. His mother was killed in a hit-and-run accident when he was ten, and grief drove his father to drink. Charlie learned to take care of himself and his father. When Charlie is seventeen, he meets a dog named Radar and his aging master, Howard Bowditch, a recluse in a large house on top of a large hill, with a locked shed in the yard. Sometimes strange sounds come out of it.

Charlie begins working for Mr. Bowditch and loses his heart to Radar. Then, when Bowditch dies, he leaves Charlie a tape telling a story no one would believe. What Bowditch knows, and has kept secret all his long life, is that inside the hangar is a portal to another world.
