Delhi: MCD seizes three commercial properties in the West zone for non-payment of tax

Taking tough action on property tax defaulters, the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) has seized three commercial properties in the Western Zone.

“Anand Vatika located on the main road in Bapraula has not paid property tax since 2004 and has accrued total dues of Rs. 12,69,059 excluding interest and penalties,” MCD said in a press release.

Sonam Vatika in the same area has also not paid property tax since 2004 and accrued dues of Rs. 6,59,139, excluding interest and penalties, he added. Similarly, property at A-2/21A at Chanakya Place Part-1 in Uttam Nagar has to pay Rs. 16,93,440, excluding interest and penalties, MCD said.

The MCD’s property tax department has taken action after giving defaulters enough opportunities to pay their outstanding tax, a senior official with the civic body said. The owners disregarded the demand notices and the show cause notice for non-payment of tax, the official added.

The civic body took their non-payment of taxes seriously and began the process of seizing the properties, he said.

Officials also said that if property owners fail to pay their property taxes, appropriate action under the DMC Act of 1957 will be taken against them. The MCD asks all property tax owners to be responsible citizens and pay their taxes on time, he added.
